River stepped onto the field determined to assert its superiority and quickly took over the match. While Defensores de Pronunciamiento retreated to play in its own half, el Millionario started threatening its rival from the sides, through Milton Casco and Fabrizio Angileri. Benjamín Rollheiser was the first player who attempted to score, but his shot deflected off a defender.

In the first clear situation, Rollheiser passed the ball to a wide-open Julián Álvarez, who ran up on the right and made a center pass to Rafael Borré: the forward wasn’t able to score and missed the chance to open the scoring at the Florencio Sola Stadium. River made another attempt to score, this time off a set piece. Robert Rojas failed to score in the first play and, in the second one, Javier Pinola was impeded. After many approaches, el Millionario was the first one to celebrate: after a good play by Álvarez, Suárez took over the area, got in the right position, and scored between Sergio Correa’s legs.

River had a second chance, but the goalkeeper responded brilliantly to a teammate's faulty clearance. Then, Angileri wasn’t able to take advantage of the rebound. Before the first half finished, Álvarez kicked the ball well off a center pass from Casco, setting the score at 2-0. Gallardo’s team could even have entered the half-time break with a 3-0 score, after a good assist by Borré off which Suárez wasn’t able to score.

In the second half, the team from Entre Ríos had the first chance. Héctor Echagüe took over a very dangerous free kick, near the area, but his shot went well over Franco Armani’s goal. River responded with a first touch by Lucas Beltrán, who had just entered the field of play, but his right-footed shot was saved by Correa. In another play, Rollheiser caught a direct rebound in the area, but fired a deflected shot.

On the 15-minute mark, Beltrán set up a good play on the right and fired an off-target center pass that was intercepted by Angileri, whose low left-footed shot set the score at 3-0. It was also the defender’s first goal wearing the River jersey. Beltrán almost had the pleasure of celebrating his own goal after firing a great header towards the first goalpost off a corner kick, but Correa didn’t allow it. Federico Girotti took advantage of his opportunity, after a pass from Álvarez, and fired a cross-shot, setting the score at 4-0 in the south of Buenos Aires.

Now, River awaits its Rival in the next stage, who will be the winner of the match between Atlético Tucumán and Comunicaciones.
