River started better positioned on the playing field and, in the first seconds, a very controversial play took place within Defensa y Justicia’s box: after a center by Milton Casco on the left, the ball hit Guido Mainero’s right arm, but the referee, Fernando Echenique, allowed the match to continue. Out of a corner kick, Robert Rojas almost heads the ball to open the scoring.

On both sides, el Millionario threatened with a dangerous center shot by Casco, that Ignacio Scocco couldn’t reach. On another clear opportunity, Rojas set Nacho Fernández up for a goal and the midfielder chipped Ezequiel Unsain, but the ball passed very close to the keeper’s left goalpost. The away team, in one of the first plays, scored the first goal thanks to Juan Lucero. River couldn’t put offensive plays together and the first half ended with an unfavorable result.

In the second half, River was determined to even the score and created many dangerous situations. Unsain blocked an amazing right-footed shot by Montiel on the first goalpost and then responded to a shot by a Scocco. Suárez also had his chance with a volley that went out and Nacho Fernández almost celebrates a goal in a one-on-one with the rival goalkeeper.

The well-deserved draw came after a clear foul on De La Cruz committed by Adonis Frías in the area and a penalty kick turned into a goal by Juan Quintero. In the remaining minutes, River did everything possible to win: Unsain prevented Lucas Pratto and De La Cruz from celebrating. With this draw, and one last matchday left, River will do a lap of honour if it beats Atlético in Tucumán.
