El Millionario was the superior side for most of the match against Boca Juniors, turned it around 2-1 and deserved the three points. The home team evened the score five minutes before the end.

River Plate was clearly superior in the first half. After the match had just begun, Rafael Borré put Esteban Andrada to the test with a powerful right-footed shot towards the first goalpost. Then, Jorge Carrascal also had his chance with a shot that was saved by the rival goalkeeper. However, in its first play, Boca scored the first goal thanks to a shot by Ramón Ábila. While still being superior and being in possession of the ball, el Millionario almost evened the score with a shot by Carrascal towards one of the goalposts.

Boca stayed completely on its side and waited to attack. Thus, it was close to scoring the second goal in the last dangerous play. Nicolás Capaldo caught a rebound at the edge of the large box and fired a front shot that was well saved by Franco Armani. Up until half-time, River played and was able to approach the rival goal, but wasn’t precise enough in the last meters.

In the second half, Boca’s Ábila and Villa made clear approaches, but Armani responded well to both. River was dominating the game, but it was missing the final touch. After Campuzano's dismissal (it should have happened in the first half), el Millionario made its dominance even more evident. In one of the many approaches, the score was evened after a great center pass by Gonzalo Montiel from the right and a header by a knelt down Federico Girotti, who had come onto the field a few minutes before.

River took advantage of the boost in morale and deservedly set the score at 2-1: a good center pass by Nacho Fernández from the left and a perfect header by Borré. Enzo Pérez was dismissed and, towards the end, Carlos Tevez set Villa up for a goal and Villa scored when Armani came off his line, setting the final 2-2 score.

Now, Marcelo Gallardo’s team will welcome Palmeiras for the CONMEBOL Libertadores semifinals and will close this stage of the Diego Maradona Cup next weekend, against Independiente.
